Graduation from the Master’s Degree in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Barcelona

On 29 October 2021, the graduation of the Master's Degree in Paediatric Dentistry, Class 2019-2021, of the University of Barcelona took place.

Paediatric Dentistry at Barcelona: graduation from the UB Master’s Degree

Paediatric Dentistry at Barcelona enjoyed last October 29th, 2021 the graduation ceremony of the Master’s Degree in Pediatric Dentistry, Promotion 2019-2021, of the University of Barcelona.

The director and coordinator of this master’s degree is Dr. Juan Ramón Boj, from the Department of Odontostomatology of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona.

How long does the Degree last?

This Master has a duration of two academic years, with 162 ECTS. The estimated total hours are 3800 hours:

a) in the first year there are 2050 hours: 750 theoretical and 1300 practical hours, and

b) in the second year there are 1750 hours: 450 theoretical and 1300 practical hours.

To start, during the first year the dental care of children and adolescents is carried out at the Bellvitge Dental Hospital. Then, during the second year, the practices are mainly focused on the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu where the care is directed to children with special needs, oncology patients, autism spectrum disorders, among others. In addition, the training is completed with internships at the Hospital de Nens in Barcelona.

How many annual places are available?

This master’s degree grants 9 annual places, awarded to people from all over the world. The main language spoken in the master’s program is Spanish due to the large number of students from other countries. However, the literature consulted and studied is practically all in English.

 

What matters does Paediatric Dentistry at Barcelona cover? 

The Master’s Degree in Pediatric Dentistry covers multiple topics such as prevention, diagnosis and treatment plan. Also, behavioral management, restorative dentistry, pulp therapy, baby dentistry, dentoalveolar trauma, sedation, general anesthesia and special care for patients with special needs. Finally, other topics such as growth and development, orthodontics, hospital dentistry, pediatric dentistry emergencies, pediatric periodontics and oral pathology are also covered.

The graduation took place in the auditorium of the Hotel Colón in Barcelona and complied with COVID-19 safety measures. Corresponding limitations and restrictions were implemented such as the use of masks, capacity limitations and safe distance. The graduation was an emotional event that marked the end of the master’s degree for the 2019-2020 Pediatric Dentistry graduating class, a class marked by COVID-19.
